Yes, if the plates are not encased in a housing. The filter pads are made of naturally absorbent materials. Some wine will always wick to the edges of the pads. In standard home plate filters, such as the Buon Vino, the edges of the pads are outside the plates. Although the plates are tightened and the vast majority of wine is being forced through the pores of the pads, some wine always wicks to the edges and drips. We have found that a cookie sheet under the filter plates is adequate to catch the minor dripping.
