About Our CO2 Tank Exchange Program

The Beverage People operates a CO2 tank exchange program for 5 lb tanks.  WE DO NOT FILL TANK ON PREMISE NOR DO WE EXCHANGE OTHER SIZES OF TANKS.

Exchanges are $42.25 ($31.69 when ordered online) for tanks that have been tested within the last 4 1/2 years, with an original manufacture date no older than 1990.  WE DO NOT ACCEPT ALLUMINUM TANKS PRE-1990 MANUFACTURING---THIS DATE IS INDICATED BY THE ORIGINAL HYDRO TEST DATE STAMP AS SHOWN BELOW.  Hydrostatic (Hydro) Testing is a process where components such gas cylinders are tested for strength and leaks. Aluminum CO2 cylinders require testing every 5 years.  At the time of testing, a date stamp will be imprinted into the cylinder near the top of the tank.  Here is an example of a Hydrostatic Test Stamp Date.

How to Exchange Tanks at The Beverage People

1. Check to see if your tank has been tested within the last 4 1/2 years.
2. Check to be sure it is empty of CO2 (and beer!).  The tare weight will be stamped on the side.  An empty tank should have that weight.  To check for CO2 or beer inside, you can turn the tank upside down and open the valve.  MAKE SURE THE OUTLET IS FACING AWAY FROM YOU.
3. Add the CO2 Tank Exchange item, seen below, to your cart. With this exchange, you will need to bring your empty tank to our warehouse at the time you pick up your filled tank.  
4. As you pick up the USED Filled Tank from the staff at our warehouse, drop off your empty 5 lb CO2 Tank with the staff. We will notify you as soon as your filled tank is ready for pickup.  Your card will not be charged until the exchange is completed.

Out of date tanks from other vendors will be charged a $55 hydro test fee.

How We Handle Hydrostat Testing Fees

If you are exchanging a tank that you RECEIVED FROM The Beverage People and that tank has an expired hydrostat test date stamp on it, we will exchange that tank without charging a hydrostat test fee.  In this case The Beverage People will pay the retest fee.

If you are exchanging a tank that you DID NOT RECEIVE FROM The Beverage People, and that tank has an expired hydrostat test date stamp on it OR a date that will expire within the next 6  months, you must pay the hydrostat test fee in order to exchange that tank at The Beverage People.
